THE UNITY SHOW

The Unity Show will take place at the J2X Abstract Art Gallery at Jack Jack’s Coffee House in Babylon, NY. This call for artists asks its participants to embody the theme of “unity” and will showcase artwork that is both a collaboration and a visual representation of solidarity.

How It Works

The aim of this unity show is to have multiple artists working separately to create and share one piece. One artist will begin the piece on a blank canvas, the next artist will receive that piece and build upon what has been started, and a third artist “completes” the piece. We are asking that artists do not share the contributions they have made to the artwork (on social media or privately) while this process is happening, as we envision the gallery reception on March 4th to be a powerful reveal of how we can be unified even in separate spaces.

A maximum of 24 artists will be selected from all of the applications and placed into a blind selection process. Groups of 3 will be formed in order to create 8 different pieces of art to be displayed at the J2X Abstract Art Gallery for several weeks.

The participants of each group will be provided with each other’s contact information. Participants are responsible for communicating with one another on the time they have possession of the canvas, how they will exchange the piece, their group’s artistic vision, etc. You will each get 1 month to work on the canvas that is being shared (a 3 month collaborative creation process in total).
