Storylines: A Start Book Club
One Sunday a Month (10:30am -12:30pm)
15 members max!
Storylines: A START Book Club, promises to be a unique and engaging way to bring people together through literature and creativity. The group will be run by our very own Jessie Leete!
The club will meet for 2 hours and will include:
Creative arts activities to explore the story and its relationship to life and meaning-making.
Time for open discussion and shared insights.
Quiet moments for individual reading and reflection.
Our first meeting will be February 16th.
All members will meet & introduce themselves! Then we will outline books for the year, including 1 recommendation of a “impactful” book from each group member (this could be nostalgia, personal connection to the book, a change in perspective about something, was a part of healing process, etc.) We will spend some time discussing the value of connecting to stories/sharing with others.
We will also discuss what personal goals for book club and reasons for joining. Is this a New Years resolution to read more? To connect with others? Meet new people? Have meaningful discussions and share perspectives?
First book is Maybe You Should Talk to Someone by Lori Gottlieb. You may bring it and start reading with any remaining time on the first day (February 16th), but discussion on this book will occur on the Sunday, March 16th session. This book offers plenty of room for thoughtful discussion. While the focus of the book club isn’t strictly about mental health, it will naturally include opportunities to reflect on connections to personal growth and meaning-making.
